Watches For Men

Watches For Men Biography.
A watch is a small clock, typically worn either on the wrist or attached on a chain and carried in a pocket; wristwatches, however, are the most common type of watch used today. Watches evolved in the 17th century from spring powered clocks, which appeared in the 15th century. The first watches were strictly mechanical. As technology progressed, the mechanisms used to measure time have, in some cases, been replaced by use of quartz vibrations or electronic pulses.[1] The first digital electronic watch was developed in 1970.[2]

Before wristwatches became popular in the 1920s, most watches were pocket watches, which often had covers and were carried in a pocket and attached to a watch chain or watch fob.[3] In the early 1900s, the wristwatch, originally called a Wristlet, was reserved for women and considered more of a passing fad than a serious timepiece. Men, who carried pocket watches, were quoted as saying they would "sooner wear a skirt as wear a wristwatch".[4] This changed in World War I, when soldiers on the battlefield found pocket watches to be impractical and attached their watches to their wrist by a cupped leather strap. It is also believed that Girard-Perregaux equipped the German Imperial Navy with wristwatches in a similar fashion as early as the 1880s, to be used while synchronizing naval attacks and firing artillery.[4]

Sekonda

Sekonda Biography.
Sekonda is a British distributor of fashion wristwatches. Sekonda is the best-selling watch brand in the United Kingdom.[citation needed]
Originally a company which marketed Soviet-made time pieces in the West, Sekonda's Soviet ties ended with the break-up of the USSR. Most Soviet-era Sekondas were re-badged Poljot and Raketa models, produced respectively by the First Moscow Watch Factory and the Petrodvorets Watch Factory.
Since 1993, the company has imported its products from factories in Asia, as it no longer has ties with the Russian producers. Since 2004, the First Moscow Watch Factory is not producing anymore, though the Petrodvorets Watch Factory is still producing the Raketa watches
Sekonda also markets watches under the sub-brand SEKSY for ladies' fashion, ONE for men's fashion and Xpose for rugged outdoor lifestyles of either gender.

Pearl Necklace

Pearl Necklace Biography.
The value of the pearls in jewelry is determined by a combination of the luster, color, size, lack of surface flaw and symmetry that are appropriate for the type of pearl under consideration. Among those attributes, luster is the most important differentiator of pearl quality according to jewelers.

All factors being equal, however, the larger the pearl the more valuable it is. Large, perfectly round pearls are rare and highly valued. Teardrop-shaped pearls are often used in pendants.

Precis

Precis Biography.
Here’s a new and very sharp looking piece from Corum, the Grand Precis.  Watch collectors take note as this is actually a revival of a model which was first produced by Corum in 1957. While 1957 does not seem so old as watches go, recall that Corum was founded in 1955 — so naturally the Grand Precis was quite an important (not to mention classically styled timepiece) for the young Corum brand in 1957!
Now, here’s the awesome kicker — in reviving the Grand Precis, Corum dug into its watch closet and came up with some original components from the 1957 production and used them in the movement in this watch.  Yes, the manual-wind CO162 Calibre is built with some original parts (circa 1957) as well as hand finished bridges.  This makes the Grand Precis 2011 an even more meaningful re-edition to collectors and lovers of the Corum brand.  Well done, Corum!

IWC

IWC Biography.
In 1868, an American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones (1841–1916) [5] who had been a director of E. Howard & Co., in Boston, then America's leading watchmaking company, founded the International Watch Company with the intention of combining the craftsmanship of the Swiss with the modern engineering technology from the U.S. to manufacture movements and watch parts for the American market."[6] At the time, wages in Switzerland were relatively low although there was a ready supply of skilled watchmaking labor"[6] mainly carried out by people in their homes. Jones encountered opposition to his plans in French-speaking Switzerland because people feared for their jobs"[6] and the work they did at home because Jones wanted to open a factory.
In 1850 the town of Schaffhausen was in danger of being left behind in the Industrial Age. It was at this stage that watch manufacturer and industrialist Johann Heinrich Moser stepped in and did the region a huge service. As a pioneer of hydropower, he built Schaffhausen's first hydroelectric plant and laid the cornerstone for future industrialization."[7] He probably met F.A. Jones in Le Locle and showed great interest in his plans. Together, they laid the foundations for the only watch manufacturers in north-eastern Switzerland: The International Watch Company in Schaffhausen.
